Premise

The game of Vallaress, named after the planet where the game takes place, is a high fantasy role-playing game featuring magic, monsters, and epic quests. There are a variety of roles for characters to play, and the type of RP available ranges anywhere from total slice-of-life to non-stop adventure depending on each player's preference. Players may choose from two options for their character's application: either as a native of Vallaress who has only known this world and no other, or as a character forcibly summoned from their world to awaken in Vallaress. Characters can choose to pursue magic, power, prestige, or any combination of the three as they learn to adjust, survive, and combat the great blight that is slowly spreading across the planet.

Starting Out

The Jamjar Option
Each character has the same experience, whether they were sound asleep in bed or in the middle of a pitched battle: a great swirling portal of explosive colors and crackling light appeared and yanked the character straight into it, knocking them unconscious. They awaken within sight of Castle Barad Mala, perched high and shining on a hilltop, and the town of Rendezvous nestled in the vale below. All around are vast stretches of farmland, some well-tended to, others abandoned. There doesn't seem to be any other sign of civilization nearby, so while the character might choose to explore the Centaur Woods, Ermine Heath, or even further beyond, the most logical choice would be to go to town for supplies, food, rest, and answers.

The AU Option
As a native of Vallaress, your character has the option of belonging to any of the four prime races, but there are certainly other less populous races that exist to which your character may belong (such as centaurs, dragons, elves, etc.). Though the character may hail from just about any location on the map, many have chosen to flock to Rendezvous and Castla Barad Mala for the community and protection this place offers against the blight. There are many trades available for Vallarians, including (but not limited to) blacksmiths, barkeeps, magicians, herbalists, wandering minstrels, soldiers, and bounty hunters. But the trade that is generally most revered for common folk is that of a farmer, the truly gifted of which are referred to as Geomancers. Working with the land has created a deep and intimate harmony with the planet, giving them protective powers to repel the blight. There are a huge variety of roles your character may choose to play, and those roles may change through the course of the game. There's plenty of world exploration to be done, and adventure awaits!

Starting Inventory
Jamjar characters bring anything they were wearing or holding when the portal appeared (within reason; a horse is okay, a house is not). AU characters can assume they have a house and/or establishment that matches their trade (a farmer would have a farm, a baker would have a bakery and either a cottage or a living arrangement built into the shop). Most natives own some sort of riding animal such as a horse or donkey, and carry a personal weapon such as a sword, knife, staff, etc. Characters shouldn't own any world-breaking, significantly magical/powerful, or "macguffin" items unless it's been cleared with the mod for plot reasons.
